In this emotionally touching and visually stunning ode to paternal love, he showcases the bond between father and son during a stay in Banco Chinchorro, Mexico, a wildlife sanctuary home to the second largest barrier reef in the world. 73 minutes. “Soccer provides the backdrop for this rowdy, ramshackle comedy about two brothers—Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, reunited after the terrific Y Tu Mamá También—who find themselves opponents on the playing field. Luna and García Bernal display the kind of chemistry that makes you overlook the clichés in the script by first-time director Carlos Cuarón. Sometimes good-natured fun is enough.” Peter Travers, Rolling Stone. Rated R: for pervasive language, sexual content and brief drug use; 103 minutes; Spanish with English subtitles. Just when Nick is about to give up and move to Squaresville, he accidentally discovers a talent for scatting. The Beats love it and Nick finds his cool in his own beatless way. He may stick out like a sore thumb, but that's because Nick always marches to the beat of his own drum.

Pigeon Impossible is the tale of Walter, a rookie secret agent faced with a problem seldom covered in basic training: what to do when a curious pigeon gets trapped inside your multi-million dollar, government-issued nuclear briefcase.

In Life on a Limb, irreconcilable enemies, a tree and a lumberjack, are stuck in a waiting room together. Inevitably, conflict ensues. Will they end up burying the hatchet?

Yellow Sticky Notes  After realizing that yellow sticky note "to do" lists were consuming his life, filmmaker Jeff Chiba Stearns decided to visually self-reflect on his filmmaking journey by animating on the same sticky notes that caused him to ignore major world events for the last nine years. Animation meditation is blended with image, text, and an original musical score by Genevieve Vincent through the creation of a classically animated experimental film that was drawn straight ahead with only a black ink pen on over 2300 yellow sticky notes.

In Gerald’s Last Day, Gerald the dog, an unlikely candidate for adoption, has been scheduled for termination by the pound at 5:00. Today is his last chance to seduce a potential adopter.....can he do it before his time runs out?

In ancient Greece, a mysterious orphan is discovered. At first the local villagers are wary of the strange girl who cries beautiful blossoms instead of tears. But in time they begin to treasure her magical gift and desire her flowers. Olivia, a kind and giving spirit resolves to spend her days thinking sad thoughts and crying mountains of flowers for the insatiable villagers. However, sudden love brings change when Olivia falls for a jovial farmer named Panos. Panos desires nothing from Olivia except her happiness and so, out of love, he forbids her from crying. But the villagers will not simply forsake their beloved "girl who cries flowers."

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

The adventures of wisecracking pre-teen Greg Heffley, who must somehow survive the scariest time of anyone's life... middle school. Convinced it's the "dumbest idea ever invented," Heffley considers junior high school a place rigged with hundreds of social landmines, not the least of which are wedgies, swirlies, bullies, lunchtime banishment of the cafeteria floor and a festering piece of cheese with nuclear cooties that he must overcome to become popular. His diary—or "journal"—chronicles his thoughts, tales of family trials and tribulations, and (would be) schoolyard triumphs.

 August 12

In the end, they would discover new things about themselves and new truth about the world they thought they knew.

In Un Duelo, two hummingbirds engage on a senseless but sometimes funny battle.

El Salon Mexico is a fantasy set in Mexico in the 1800's when a very young campesino who, along with his burro and rooster, sneaks out of the house one night to see a fiesta for the very first time.

Folktales from Around the World: The Bear Prince is a Mexican tale about a spirit that turns a prince into a bear. When the bear marries a woodcutter's daughter, he reveals his secret and exacts a promise that she will never tell. In a fit of anger, she reveals it, setting off an extraordinary quest.

Best of Fest: The Good, The Bad, The Weird

Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 7:00 pm
Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth
Admission: $8.00 for General Admission and $6.00 for Lone Star Film Society and National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame Members

6:00 pm Cash Bar Reception hosted by the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame Young Guns

The Lone Star Film Society proudly presents The Good, The Bad, The Weird as part of the Best of Fest screening series.  The Good, The Bad, The Weird will screen at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth on Thursday, August 26th, 2010 at 7:00 pm.

Tickets:
$8.00 for general admission, $6.00 for Lone Star Film Society or National Cowgirl Museum members. Members of the National Cowgirl Museum, enter in the promo code YOUNG GUNS to receive your 25% off discount. Tickets may be purchased below.

SYNOPSIS: With the Korean Peninsula under Japanese rule in 1930s, many Koreans flock to Manchuria for refuge. Some become bandits, some train robbers and yet others bounty hunters. While the Weird, a notorious train robber, is stealing from a Japanese train crossing the Manchurian plains, he discovers a treasure map. But the map is also sought after by the Bad, a merciless gang leader. Coincidentally, the Good, a bounty hunter, is on the train, and he is after the Bad. The three engage in a spectacular chase with the Japanese Army, the Korean independence fighters, and the Chinese bandits all looking to get their hands on the prize.

East meets West meets East again, with palate-tingling results, in "The Good the Bad the Weird," a Western that draws shamelessly on its spaghetti forebears but remains utterly, bracingly Korean. At more than two years in production, and at a reported $17 million, it is the most expensive South Korean movie to date.  From the initial train holdup through a shantytown gun battle to a 15-minute desert flatlands chase that's a jaw-dropper, it is an emotionally and physically a much more intense, visceral, and full-contact experience.  – Variety

This film is rated R by the MPAA

The Rape of the Sabine Women

3

August 4, 2010 at 7:30 pm
Angelika Theater in Dallas
Admission is FREE

The Rape of the Sabine Women is part of The Program, a biannual presentation of video art sponsored by The Video Association of Dallas, Conduit Gallery, with special screenings at the Dallas Museum of Art and the Angelika Theater. The Second Program begins in late July, 2010 and runs through August. Conduit Gallery will host an exhibition of video art curated by Charles Dee Mitchell. Additional screenings will take place at the gallery, the Dallas Museum of Art, and the Angelika Theater at Mockingbird Station.

Synopsis:  The Rape of the Sabine Women was conceived as allegory based loosely on the ancient myth that follows Romulus' founding of Rome. Re-envisioning the myth as a 1960's period piece with the Romans cast as G-men, the Sabines as butchers' daughters, and the heyday of Rome allegorically implied in an affluent international style summer house, this version is a riff on the original story of abduction and intervention, in which Romulus devises a plan to ensure the future of the empire. While the Roman myth traces the birth of a society, this telling suggests the destruction of a utopia. The intervention of the women is fraught, and the chaos that ensues transforms the designed perfection into nothingness.  Filmed on location in Athens and Hydra, Greece, and in Berlin, Germany, the 80 minute video was directed by Eve Sussman with an original score by Jonathan Bepler, choreography by Claudie De Serpa Soares, and costumes by Karen Young.
